Our Curriculum

EYFS-based curriculum

Through these early years, your child will follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which provides a flexible and stimulating development programme tailored to your child’s unique individual needs.

Within the EYFS, there is a freedom of choice in the method of learning, and both of our settings follow The Curiosity Approach. This approach is a mixture of four ingredients and theorists: Reggio Emilia, Te Whariki, Rudolf Steiner, and Marie Montessori. These theories make up The Curiosity Approach and include elements such as loose parts, authentic items, beautiful play spaces, seasons, natural independence, adventurous play, light, and more.

Children have a natural drive to be curious; it is up to us as practitioners to nurture their curiosity through rich experiences and opportunities.

Little Gems Nursery

Together with Loris Malaguzzi, we believe that three key teachers contribute to a child's early learning: parents, other children, and the environment. This is why we place great emphasis on our classroom setups, designed to align with children's interests and natural curiosities.

There are five principles that underpin our curriculum:

  • Contribution - We want children to be active members of our classroom routines, decision-making, and able to contribute to their learning by sharing their interests and fascinations with us.
  • Communication - We want our children to be powerful communicators, able to express their opinions and wants, as well as care for others.
  • Belonging - We want our children to have a strong sense of belonging that will develop a sense of safety and confidence. We want them to know that they are unique and special.
  • Exploration - We want our children to be free to explore our indoor and outdoor environments and draw their conclusions and speculations. We want them to ask powerful questions and learn something new each day.
  • Well-being - We want our children to be healthy inside and out. We want them to be aware of what contributes to their well-being and a healthy lifestyle.
